BAKEWELL MANNERIANS RUFC (Ltd) – NEW YEAR 2008 NEWSLETTER
BAKEWELL SPORTS PARTNERSHIP.
We
have entered into a partnership with the Bakewell Junior
Football Club, the Cricket Club, the Croquet Club and
Derbyshire Dales District Council. The partnership is also
open to other sports clubs, schools and leisure clubs in the
Bakewell Area. We are hoping the Town Council will come on
board, and at some even the Show Council. Some key issues for
the partnership are car parking, and facilities at the
pavilion. We, as a club, have raised the idea of a bridge
from the pavilion to the back of the show offices. This gives
us better access to changing facilities for the entire club,
and the other clubs better car parking. The pavilion needs
more changing rooms so we may be looking to raise capital from
sponsors, and sports organisations. A feasibility study of
what is possible is being considered, even better use of the
ABC. We will keep you appraised of results as there will be a
need for major fund raising if we deicide to go ahead with any
projects. The main thing for the partnership is that we will
have strength in numbers when it comes in applying for monies
and planning permissions.
1ST
XV.
A very successful start to the season saw the 1st
XV top of their league with at least 6 other teams top at some
stage. The team is doing well in both the Derbyshire Cup and
NLD Shield having seen off Dronfield and West Bridgford
respectively. The first weekend of the New Year saw us take 48
players to Boston and two tremendous victories with the 1st
XV winning 66-0, and 2nd XV 59-3; a great way to
avenge the home defeat to Boston earlier in the season. The 1st
XV are second to Ashbourne on points difference, but with a
game in hand. The table at the beginning of January reads:

XV.
This team has a great success
playing at least more often than not, and this is usually down
to Barry Pearson’s tireless enthusiasm to ensure younger,
older and more social rugby players are getting a game. It
provides a source of players who have had game time and in
this aspect is vital to the 1st XV when
reinforcements are needed. Next match: 12th Jan
v Dronfield away. KO
2.15pm.

U14s. Having suffered with a squad unsure of their focus
and direction, we have managed to keep a squad going and put
two of our players in Derbyshire’ U14s team. This is
brilliant, and is just the fillip this team needs. Sadly
fixtures have not been as full as we would have liked due to
the weather, school FOOTBALL trip and opposition player
numbers. However, without the fabulous support of Rob,
Katy, and Tom Farenden we couldn’t function, so a big thank
you to them. For all of you please go and recruit more
players and let’s have a cracking rest of the season
building for a thoroughly enjoyable social season in
2008/09. We could also do with more parental support in
coaches, and team management please. |

U13s. A curate’s egg for them, having lost key players to a
school FOOTBALL tour!! Despite that, they did themselves
proud in the NLD Cup and were beating Derby 12-7 at half
time only to lose 26-12 at the close. They maintain their
position in next year’s cup, with Lincoln being relegated.
That’s great news. |
